A
Mirroring and pacing.
Mirroring: reflecting observable behaviours e.g. if one leans forward so does the other. Improves rapport.
Pacing: lead another person from a particular style

Open-ended: General questions with a broad scope
Focused: Area of enquire more precisely
Closed: yes or no answer
Leading: Implying a specific answer
Compound: 2 questions in one
Indirect: Rhetorical statements which implies a response is expected

Describe taking a medical history?
A
- Introduction: gain consent, confirm patients name, DoB. Introduce yourself.
- Presenting complaint: Why they have attended the surgery today.
- Past medical history
- Systemic enquiry: questions regarding the presenting complaint e.g. respiratory questions for a cough.
- Drug history: medications, allergies, smoking, illict drugs
- Family history: any conditions that run in the family
- Social history: their life; family, work, exercise etc
- Summarising
