Non Normal Maneuvers Flashcards

Non Normal Maneuvers

1
Q

Approach to stall and stall recovery

A

Initiate the recovery:
NOSE DOWN ELEVATOR…….SMOOTHLY APPLY (to reduce the angle of attack until buffet or stick shaker stops)

Continue the recovery:
THE SHORTEST DIRECTION TO
WINGS LEVEL………..ROLL IN (if needed)*
THRUST LEVERS…..ADVANCE (as needed)
SPEEDBRAKES…………………...RETRACT
Do not change gear or flap configuration, except:
• During liftoff, if flaps are up,
CALL…………………………………FLAPS 1
Complete the recovery:
AIRSPEED……………….CHECK (as needed)
THRUST………………...ADJUST (as needed)
• Establish pitch attitude
• Return to desired flight path
• Re-engage the autopilot and
activate the autothrottle, if desired

Q

Upset Recovery Conditions

A

CONDITIONS:
• pitch attitude greater than 25 degrees nose up, or
• pitch attitude greater than 10 degrees nose down, or
• bank angle greater than 45 degrees, or
• within above parameters but flying at airspeeds inappropriate for the conditions

Q

Nose High Recovery

A

AUTOPILOT……………………..DISENGAGE AUTOTHROTTLE……………DISCONNECT
• Apply as much as full nose down elevator
• *Apply appropriate nose down stabilizer trim
THRUST…………………………….REDUCE
• *Roll (adjust bank angle) to obtain a nose down pitch rate
Complete the recovery:
- when approaching the horizon, roll to wings
level
- check airspeed and adjust thrust
- establish pitch attitude

Nose low recovery

A
AUTOPILOT………………........DISENGAGE
AUTOTHROTTLE……………DISCONNECT
• Recover from stall (if required)
• *Roll in the shortest direction to wings
level (unload and roll if bank angle is
more than 90 degrees)
• Recover to level flight:
- apply nose up elevator
- *apply nose up trim, if required
- adjust thrust and drag as required

Q

GPWS warning

A

AUTOPILOT……………………..DISENGAGE
AUTOTHROTTLE……………DISCONNECT
THRUST LEVERS……………AGGRESSIVELY
apply MAX* THRUST
• Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate to
an initial pitch attitude of 20°
SPEEDBRAKES…………………..RETRACT
• If terrain remains a threat, continue rotation up to the pitch limit indicator or stick shaker or initial buffet
• Do not change gear or flap configuration until terrain separation is assured
• Monitor radio altimeter for sustained or
increasing terrain separation
• When clear of the terrain, slowly decrease
pitch attitude and accelerate

Q

RA TCAS, except a climb in landing configuration

A

A DESCENT RA below 1000ft AGL should be not followed
If maneuvering is required:
AUTOPILOT……………………..DISENGAGE
AUTOTHROTTLE……………DISCONNECT
Smoothly adjust pitch and thrust to satisfy the RA command.
Follow the planned lateral flight path unless visual contact with the conflicting traffic requires other action.

Q

For climb RA in landing configuration

A

AUTOPILOT……………………..DISENGAGE
AUTOTHROTTLE……………DISCONNECT
Advance thrust levers forward to ensure maximum thrust is attained.
CALL……………………..………..”Flaps 20”

Smoothly adjust pitch to satisfy the RA command. Follow the planned lateral flight path unless visual contact with the conflicting traffic requires other action.

Verify a positive rate of climb on the altimeter
CALL……………………….…….”Gear Up”
