Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) Flashcards
1
Q
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
A
- Most common leukemia (not sure)
- Overexpression of Bcl-2
- Neoplasm of mature B cells, expressing CD19, CD20, CD23, and Ig heavy and light chains
- Only CLL and mantle cell lymphoma express CD5
- Having CD38+ CLL is considered a poor diagnostic marker
- Eventually (not sure!) will transform to ALL (wrong?) or DLBL (Richter’s syndrome)
- Rai staging and Binet staging
- Incurable
- Chemotherapy: rituximab (anti-CD20) + cyclophosphamide (CP)
2
Q
Follicular lymphoma
A
- B cell origin
- Indolent
- Most common indolent lymphoma in adults
- t(14,18) ► Bcl-2 overexpression ► inhibition of apoptosis
- 50% progress to DLBL
- Incurable
- Rituximab
3
Q
Hairy cell leukemia
A
- B cell origin
- Indolent
- Mainly in older males
- BRAF mutations
- Massive splenomegaly and pancytopenia
4
Q
Marginal zone B cell lymphoma
A
- B cell origin
- Indolent
- E.g. gastric MALT lymphoma
- Associated with t(11,18) and H. pylori infection
- Most common in adults
- Associated with autoimmune diseases
- Sjogren syndrome
- Hashimoto thyroiditis
5
Q
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia
A
- B cell origin
- Indolent
- IgM antibodies
6
Q
Small cell lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL)
A
- B cell origin
- Indolent
- What’s the connection with CLL?
7
Q
Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBL)
A
- B cell origin
- Aggressive
- Most common NHL in adults
- Caused by mutations of Bcl-2, Bcl-6, P53
- Primary CNS lymphoma
- Associated with EBV and AIDS
8
Q
Mantle cell lymphoma
A
- B cell origin
- Aggressive
- Most common in adult men
- t(11,14) ► overexpressin of cyclin D1 ► promotes proliferation
- CD5+
9
Q
Burkitt lymphoma
A
- B cell origin
- Aggressive
- Associated with EBV and AIDS
- Most common in children
- t(8,14) ► overactivation of c-myc proto-oncogene
10
Q
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) - precursor B cell lymphoblastic lymphoma
A
- B cell origin
- Aggressive
- Most common in adolescents and young adults
11
Q
Mycosis fungoides
A
- T cell origin
- Indolent
- Proliferation fo CD4+ T cells
- May lead to Sézary syndrome (aggressive)
12
Q
Adult T cell lymphoma
A
- T cell origin
- Aggressive
- Proliferation fo CD4+ T cells
- Occurs exclusively in adults
- Caused by HTLV (human T cell lymphotropic virus)
- Hypercalcemia
13
Q
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) - precursor T cell lymphoblastic lymphoma
A
- T cell origin
- Aggressive
- Predominantly adolescents and young adults
- SVC syndrome
14
Q
t(14,18)
A
Follicular lymphoma
15
Q
t(11,18)
A
Gastric MALT lymphoma
