Vancomycin
A
- Is a glycopeptide, non beta lactam
- Is a cell wall synthesis inhibitor
- Inhibit the “transglycosylase”
- Do not work well for “formed” bacteria ,
- Mainly works on actively deviding gram +ve bacteria
- Works for MRSA, CD infection
- Vanco time dependent killing and AUC/MIC >400,
- Tough level 15 to 20mg/l
- S.e. red man syndrome, derm rashes, heam (neutropenia amd thrombocytopenia), renal and ototxicity

- Vancomycin ( penetrates inflammed meninges
- Monobactams (Aztreonam) (some penetrates inflammed meninges)
- Cefuroxime, 3rd, 4th, 5th cephalosporins
- Carbapenam ( meropenem, imipenem)
