Q

What are the steps for naming an organic molecule?

A
  1. Count the longest C chain to decide the prefix from the number of carbon atoms
  2. Look for the functional group and decide the suffix
  3. Number the functional group (if required)
  4. Look for additional ‘things’ attached to the chain and name them
  5. Number the additional ‘things’
  6. Put the name together
