A

The elements in group 0, on the extreme right of the periodic
table, are called the noble gases.

State three properties of Noble gases

A
  1. Noble gases are unreactive
  2. All noble gases are colourless, odourless and unreactive
  3. They are monatomic, which means they exist as individual atoms. Most other gases are diatomic.

State three uses of the noble gases

A
  • Helium is used for filling balloons and weather balloons as it is less dense than air and does not burn
  • Neon, argon and xenon are used in advertising signs
  • Argon is used to provide an inert atmosphere for welding
  • Argon is also used to fill electric light bulbs as it is inert
