Many feared how this would affect safety for the poor but it was very successful moving people off welfare and into jobs
What did clinton do?
Clinton reduced the federal budget deficit and this gave the budget a surplus after nearly 30 years, one main reason of this was the booming economy
Clinton’s Foreign Policies
Wanted to keep close relation with Russia and China
Middle East Progress
Clinton helped improve peace between Israel and Palestine as they declared peace upon each other. Palestine had limited self government in Gaza and the Israeli occupied West Bank
Newt Gingrich
Turned voters dissatisfaction with Clinton into support for Republicans
Contract With America
Created by Gingrich, ten items Republicans promised to enact if they won control of Congress
Included balanced budget amendment, tax cuts, tougher crime laws, and welfare reform
As a result republicans took both houses in Congress
1996 Reelection
Budget Standoff, strong economy, and welfare reform law helped Clinton get reelected
Impeachment of Clinton
Admitted about having an inappropriate relationship with a young White House intern but denied lying about the incident under oath or attempting to obstruct the investigation
