NMR Flashcards
1
Q
what solvents are samples dissolved in, why?
A
- CCl4, CDCl3
- they r inert, no 1H atoms - so no extra peaks in spectrum
2
Q
what is a good solvent for non-polar organic molecules.
A
CCl4 is a non-polar compound
3
Q
what is used to calibrate spectrum
A
TMS
4
Q
why use TMS
A
- it only gives one signal
- its signal is away from all the other H signals
- gives strong signal so only a small amount needed
- it is non-toxic
- it is inert
- it has a low boiling point and so can be removed from sample easily
