NLS Flashcards
Why did you dry the baby and put a hat on?
Babies lose heat, convection, conduction, radiation, evaporation, head largest surface area. Cold baby harder to resuscitate. Energy triangle.
Tell me about neutral position
Face parallel to surface that you are working on, ears in line with shoulders this opens up airway.
Why do you need to measure the mask?
To small – poor seal. Too big vaso vagal = bradycardia.
What do inflation breaths do?
Long slow 2-3secs push fluid into interstitial spaces
What are ventilation breaths?
Mimic normal neonatal breathing. 1-2 secs each. 34-40 in a minute
What does a jaw pull (3 P’s)/ 2 person jaw thrust do?**
Lift tongue from airway
What are you aiming to do with cardiac compressions?
Move oxygenated blood from lungs to myocardium.
How quickly does the baby’s lungs fill with air during normal adaptation to extrauterine life?
0.6 seconds
what are the four ways that baby’s can lose heat during the resuscitation process?
Evaporation, Conduction, Convection, Radiation
Which of the following is not a long term outcome for a baby who has undergone resuscitation?
ventricular tachycardia
In which scenario would it be appropriate to give O negative blood
Following APH
