Ablative of Means
for physical things used to accomplish verbs
no preposition, rarely has a visible “cum” or “with”
cum aqua (with water)
Ablative of Place Where
tells location where something occurs (near, in, on)
primarily uses “in” + ABL
in taberna (in the shop)
Place from which
tells where the nominative/accusative is moving away from
uses e/ex + ABL
ex mare (from the sea)
Separation
used when a thing is separated from another
uses libero + ABL
libero vinculis (I am freed from chains)
Ablative of Manner
for abstract nouns being used to accomplish something
abstract nouns cannot be held or measured
can use “cum”
cum gaudio (with joy)
Accusative to Which
accusative noun showing where the nominative is going to
uses “ad”
ad astra (to the stars)
