Smooth muscle relaxant, reduces cardiac work, dilates coronary arteries and systemic arteries.
Aspirin’s indications
Acute chest pain suggestive of MI
Nitroglycerin’s indications
Chest pain associated with MI, angina pectoris.
Aspirin’s contraindications
Allergy, ulcer, GI bleeding
Nitroglycerin’s contraindications
Hypotension(systolic less than 90), hypovolemia, use of erectile disfunction drugs within past 24 hours.
Aspirin adverse effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn
Nitroglycerin adverse effects
Headache(most common), hypotension, dizziness.
Aspirin’s dose
Four 81mg chewable tablets(324mg) OR 1 adult dose tablet(325mg).
Nitroglycerin’s dose
0.4mg sublingual tablet/spray repeated every 5 minutes(max 3 doses).
