NIMBUS MONTH #1 Flashcards
1
Q
What is Impedance?
A
- Impedance (Z) is the resistance of a circuit to a current (audio signal).
- This resistance is measured in Ohms (Ω).
- Impedance is the total opposition (including resistance) that a circuit has to a passing current.
- All circuits are going to have some degree of resistance, but the main device that will impede the progress of our signal/current will be the speaker.

Q
What is A/C?
A
Alternating Current
- an alternating current, or AC, is an electric current that periodically reverses its direction, as opposed to a direct current, or DC, which maintains a single direction.
- the rate of alternation is called the frequency and is measured in cycles per second, or hertz (Hz)
- example: normal household current alternates at 60 Hz
- audio signals are, of course, ALWAYS ALTERNATING, the frequency corresponding to the frequencies of the sounds the signal represents

What is S/N?
A
Signal to Noise Ratio
