What requires a notam (and runway closure) for Threshold lights?
Less than 75% lit for VFR and non-precision IFR runways.
What requires a notam (and runway closure) for end lights?
Less than 75% lit.
What requires a notam (and runway closure) for edge lights?
Less than 85% lit for taxiways and CAT I ILS Runway , 95 % for CAT II and III runways
What requires a notam (and runway closure) for MALS lights?
More than 15% out.
What requires a notam (but not a runway closure) for and ILS hold position sign?
unlit or out of service
Runway 15/33 Lights are what intensity and at what distance (remaining) do they change color?
Runway 15/33 - High Intensity. Lights are split white/amber for the last 2000’ of each end of runway 15/33.
Runway 1/19 Lights are what intensity and at what distance (remaining) do they change color?
Runway 1/19 - Medium Intensity. Lights are split white/amber for the last 1500’ of the end of runway 1 only.
What are the approach lights for each runway at BTV?
Runway 15 - Medium Intensity Approach Lighting System (MALSR) with Runway Alignment Indicator lights (RAIL), and Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI).
Runway 33 - MALSF with Sequenced Flashers, and PAPI
Runway 01 and Runway 19 - PAPI only
What should be done when a deficiency is found?
When a deficiency is found, the inspector shall take the following action: The deficiency will be recorded in the:
i. Daily Airfield Inspection Report daily until corrected
AND ii. Airfield Maintenance Log
What action shall be taken by the inspector based upon the inspector’s judgment
i. If the deficiency does not present an immediate and critical impact on the safety of aircraft operations, corrective action will be completed as soon as practicable
ii. If the deficiency presents an immediate and critical impact on the safety of aircraft operations, and corrective action AND cannot be completed immediately, a NOTAM will be issued as soon as possible
iii. If the deficiency is such that the surface is unsafe for aircraft operations, the surface will be closed and a NOTAM issued as soon as possible. The Director of Operations and the Director of Maintenance will immediately be notified. They will make the decision to call in appropriate personnel and equipment to correct the deficiency
ATCT shall when closing for the night
ATCT shall
Operate runway/taxiway lighting between sunset and sunrise
NOT take control of the lighting panel if it has been given to the vault for maintenance without verbal coordination
Before closing, set lighting as follows:
All taxiway and runways lights place on OFF
Rotating beacon ON
Pilot controlled lighting (PCL) enabled (and tested)
Place panel in VAULT control
If PCL is out of service set as follows:
HIRL on step 3 for RWY 15/33
MIRL on step 1 for RWY 1/19
Taxiway lights ON
Note: If runway is closed lights will be turned off and PCL disabled
How many edge lights in a row can be out on a runway?
No more than 2 in a row.
How many edge lights in a row can be out on a taxiway?
No more than 3 in a row.
