Episodic patterns
Not associated with contractions
Periodic patterns
Associated with contractions
Differentiate btwn short and long term variability?
No
FHR Baseline
rounded to increments of 5 bpo during 10 minutes excluding accel, decel, marked variability, baseline segments differ by > 25 bpm
BL duration must be 2 minutes but not necessarily contiguous
BL rates (3)
Nl 110-160 bpm
Brady < 110 bpm
Tachy > 160 bpm
Variability
fluctuations in FHR baseline that are irregular in amplitude and frequency
Minimal Variability
Undetectable to = or< 5 bpm
Absent Variability
Undetectable amplitude
Moderate Variability
6-25 bpm
Marked Variability
More than 25 bpm
Sinusoidal FHR pattern
Smooth, sine-wave like undulating pattern, cycle frequency of 3-5 bpm, continues for at least 20 minutes or more.
Acceleration
Abrupt increase of at least 15 bpm above BL. Onset to peak less than 30 seconds and duration is equal to or more than 15 seconds and less than 2 minutes from onset to return to baseline.
Acceleration < 32 weeks gestation
increase of 10 bpm which lasts 10 seconds or more
Prolonged acceleration
> 2 minutes < 10 minutes
FHR Baseline change
Accelerations > 10 minutes
