what is nhs pathways ?
clinical questions arrange into symptoms based flow charts or pathways.
How does nhs pathways meet the needs of patients?
Provides care advice and rules out potential conditions but does not diagnose
How does nhs pathways work?
- Assesses a patients problem by a process of ruling out
- not diagnostic
- gives a point of referral
- referral is either in house or to an external healthcare provider
- it is supported by care advice
What does self limiting mean?
People deal with it themselves
What does home management mean
?
Clinician gives advice to deal with the symptoms at home
What does module 0 do?
Rules out life threatening problems such as labour and CPR
What does module 1 do?
Gives non emergency care advice without a clinical input
What does module to do?
Used by clinicians to deal with further issues and validate the information
How do individual pathways work?
- serious of questions to be anwsered
- most serious symptoms ruled out first
- each question must be anwsered but not necessarily always asked
Why might a caller say not sure ?
May find it hard to understand
What happens with a not sure anwser?
Upgraded or downgraded depending on the balance of risk
What are the 2 elements of a disposition?
Skill set - who they need to see
Timeframe- when they need to see them
What is a contact disposition?
Face to face appointment
What is a speak to disposition?
Telephone consultation
What is worsening advice ?
If things change or new symptoms develop or things get worse
What is care advice ?
Based on the latest evidence to help patients manage in the ‘interim’
what does the system mean when it says specify ?
Give more specific anwser with more detail up to 8 words
What do the capital letters in a question signify ?
Inferred question - we do not need to ask patient has already described a symptom of cause
Why do we not go through an inferred question ? E. g self harm.
Already known, might not be relevant

NON TRAUMA

TRAUMA
What happens if you click restart triage?
Go back to beginning to change from 1st party to 3rd party or vice versa
What is the difference between the summary and the call report?
Summary is significant information
Call report is all questions and anwsers
Why must questions be anwsered in order ?
Most serious symptoms are ruled out first in order of severity
Why are pathways gender and age specific?
Because needs of people differentiate and certain age groups have different risks and can be more vulnerable
What is the purpose of ‘ the individual has been told to follow a particular course of action’?
Someone who has a known health problem and has got a management plan in place and has came from a go or other health professional
