Why were the poor vulnerable to disease?
Malnutrition

What was a wisewoman?
Someone who gave free advice, homemade remedies to those who couldnt afford the doctor

The families were left in debt with the doctor. With instalments collected by a doctors man
What happened after the failure of the panel system to cover everyones health care?
A reform. The labour opposition and the British medical association argued that national insurance should at least be extended to workers dependance.
Why was there reluctance to expand the medical insurance system?
The conservatives of the 1930’s believed in self help and minimal government. The ministry of health had a limited role in tackling specific health problems like the spread of disease

- Tooth decay was widespread but dental treatment was covered at all
- a lot of people removed there teeth as it was more economical
- in the black country, daughters teeth were removed completely before they were married
- inherited dentures from diseased family members
Who were hospitals built for?
The poor. The rich were treated for at home
What were voluntary hospitals?
They were founded as charities. People had to get a reference in order to be treated there
