National Health Priority Areas (NHPAs)
The National Health Priority Areas are a collaborative initiative endorsed by the Commonwealth and all state and territory governments; the NHPAs seek to focus the health sector’s attention on diseases and conditions that contribute largely to Australia’s burden of disease and have the highest direct, indirect and intangible costs to the Australian community, and are largely preventable
Direction Costs
- costs which are accurately quantified and result from prevention, treatment and diagnosis of disease of illness
- monetary value
Indirect Costs
- measures that are more difficult to measure in monetary terms
- not directly related to the diagnosis, treatment of the disease
Intangible Costs
- no monetary value
- relates to the human costs (social & emotional) of loss of quality of life
Macronutrients & Micronutrients
Macro - Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats/Lipids
Micro - Vitamin D, Calcium, Phosphorus
Carbohydrates
-generally foods of a plant origin: bread, pasta, rice, sugars
