nh Flashcards
What are the features of Mucous acini? In what form is the mucous stored?
Lightly stained
Looks like pizza
Mucus is synthesized and stored within the cell apex as mucinogen granules
Why do serous cells appear purple in H&E?
Bc they contain serous demilunes
What features intercalated ducts?
Acini empty into them
Have Short cuboidal epithelium
Longest in the parotid gland
Secrete HCO3 and absorb Cl
What are the of features Striated ducts?
Lined by cuboidal to columnar epithelium
Many infoldings of their basolateral membrane aligned with mitochondria
Reabsorption of Na+ and secretion of K+ and HCO3
What are the of features interlobular ducts?
Connected with striated ducts
Lined with pseduostratfied columnar epithelium
What are the of features interlobar ducts?
Lined by stratfied columnar epithelium
What are the of features Main duct?
Lined by stratfied columnar epithelium
What are the features of the Parotid Gland?
Serous acinar cells
Secrete a-amylase
Has the longest intercalated ducts
Large amount of adipose tissue
What are the features of the Submandibular Gland?
Primarly serous tubuloacinar, Some mixed.
Has a-amylase and lysozymes
Straited ducts and intercalated ducts.
What are the features of sublingual glands?
Mixed serous and mucous tubulo-acinar but mucous cells predominate
The main product of the gland is mucus
The few serous cells present add amylase and lysozyme to the secretion
The intercalated and striated ducts are poorly developed
