Why was there an NGO proliferation?
Because new states and new democracies were unable to provide services to their citizens
-water, housing, emergency, emergency services, healthcare(clinics), security, food
What are the downsides to NGO?
Too many of them, wildly decentralized not always well thought-out, and with overlaping projects that are sometimes public relations for the NGO and culturally at odds with local traditions
Why do states invite NGOs?
Its cheaper to use NGOs than government services, it more effective or efficient than the state, third party brokers
What is an NGO’s purpose?
- Reduce a state dependency on foreign aid (developed countries)
- Reducing individual dependency on aid structures(foreign or domestic)
What is the East Asian Model for NGO?
After the state makes a pact with another govt. the state will send NGO to assist with development

Non-governmental organizations
