Newtons laws of motion Flashcards
Force
Push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object.
Motion
A change in position over time
Net Force
Combination of all forces acting upon an object
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time. Speed=Distance/Time
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object
Acceleration
Velocity and how it changes over time.
Newtons First Law
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newtons Second Law
Force= mass x acceleration
Newtons Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in velocity until an outside force acts on the object.
Friction
The force that resist motion.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass.
