newtons laws of motion Flashcards
-Be able to show an understanding of Newton's Laws motion
what is the first law of motion?
An object at rest remains at rest , and an object in motion remains in motion unless an external, unbalanced force acts upon it.
What is the second law of motion?
The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied.
What is the third law of motion?
If object A exerts an a force on object B , then object B exerts an equal and opposite force on object A.
What does acceleration mean?
The rate of change of velocity per unit of time.
What does deceleration mean?
The rate of decrease in velocity
What does inertia mean?
the tendency of a body to resist the change in motion or rest.
What is meant by ‘ equal and opposite force ‘ ?
the force the electrons exerts on us when we are pushing it.
What is meant by ‘ For every action there is a reaction ‘ ?
it means that in every interaction there is a pair if forces acting on the two objects.
What does exert mean?
to put force on something
What is meant by a ‘balanced force ‘ ?
when two forces of equal size act on a body in opposite directions.
What is meant by an ‘ unbalanced force ‘ ?
A force where two forces acting in opposing directions on a body are not equal in magnitude and size.
