NEWTONS LAWS Flashcards
What is Newton’s 2nd Law?
Mass and acceleration affect the amount of force on an object.
What is Newton’s 1st Law?
An object in motion will stay in same motion until acted upon by an unbalanced external force.
OR
An object at rest will stay at rest until acted upon by an unbalanced external force.
What is Newton’s 3rd Law?
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
What is inertia?
An object’s tendency to resist a change in motion
Decide if this is an example of Newton’s 1, 2 or 3rd Law.
A half full shopping cart is easier to push than an entirely full shopping cart.
2nd Law
Decide if this is an example of Newton’s 1, 2 or 3rd Law.
A full balloon thrusts air out of its opening. This results in the balloon propelling backwards.
3rd Law
Decide if this is an example of Newton’s 1, 2 or 3rd Law.
A person drive without a seatbelt. The car travelling at 100km/hr and hits a pole. The car stops and the person is propelled out the windscreen.
1st Law
The more mass, the _______ acceleration…
Less
The more force, the _______ acceleration…
More
Define Force?
The amount of newtons acting on an object
Is force a scalar or vector?
Vector
Do you need to include a direction with force?
YES!
What is the units of force and weight force?
N for Newtons
What is the units for mass?
