newtons laws Flashcards
force
a push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
motion
a change in position over time
net force
the combination of all the forces acting on an object
speed
distance traveled per rate of time speed = distance/time
velocity
the speed and direction of an object
acceleration
the rate at which velocity changes over time
newtons first law
on object at rest will remain at rest, an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
newtons second law
force=mass * acceleration
newtons third law
for every action there is a opposite reaction
inertia
the tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts of the object.
friction
a force that resists motion
mass
the amount of matter in a thing
gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
