Newtonian mechanics Flashcards
1 radian (rad)
is the angle subtended at the centre of a circle by an arc of length equal to the radius of the circle.
Angular displacement
is the change in angle (measured in radians) of a body as it rotates round a circle.
Angular speed
is the change in angular displacement per unit time.
Newton’s law of gravitation
states that any two point masses attract each other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of their separation.
Gravitational field strength
at a point is defined as the gravitational force per unit mass at that point.
Gravitational potential
at a point is the work done in bringing unit mass from infinity to that point.
