Newton's Laws RQP- effect of varying force on acceleration and of varying mass on acceleration Flashcards
varying force on a constant massed object on acceleration
apparatus
- toy car attached to string
- string looped around a pulley with a 100g mass on the end (force)
- on a table with chalk lines every 10cm
- timer
varying force on a constant massed object on acceleration
step 1
put car at starting point (0cm)
varying force on a constant massed object on acceleration
step 2
let go of the car (it will accelerate along the bench)
varying force on a constant massed object on acceleration
step 3
record the time that the car passes for each distance marker
varying force on a constant massed object on acceleration
step 4
repeat experiment but decrease the mass of the end of the string (e.g. 80, 60, 40, 20g) but adding the weight taken off to the toy car to keep the mass of the object constant
varying mass of an object on acceleration produced by a constant force
step 1
keep force constant by using 100g mass on end of string
varying mass of an object on acceleration produced by a constant force
step 2
attach a mass to the toy car e.g. 200g
varying mass of an object on acceleration produced by a constant force
step 3
record time car takes to accelerate for each distance marker
varying mass of an object on acceleration produced by a constant force
step 4
repeat experiment, increasing mass attached to the toy car
