Newton's laws of science Flashcards
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of an object.
Motion
A change in position over time.
Net force
The combination of all the forces acting in an object.
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time Speed=Distance/time
velocity
The speed and direction of an object.
Acceleration
The rate in which velocity changes over time.
Newtons 1st law
A object is not gonna change what it’s doing unless a force acts on it
Newton’s 2nd law
force = mass x acceleration
Newton’s 3rd law
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
Friction
a force that resists motion
Mass
The amount of matter in an object
gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
