Newton's laws of motion vocabulary Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull exerted on a object in order to change the motion on that object.
Motion
A change in position over time
Net force
The combination of all the forces acting on an object
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object
Acceleration
The rate at witch velocity changes over time
Newtons first law
An object at rest will remain in rest and an object will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
Newtons second law
Force=mass*acceleration
Newtons third law
For very action there is an equal but opposite reaction
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts in the object
Friction
A force that resist motion
Mass
The amount of matter in an object
Gravity
A attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
