Newton´s Laws of Motion Vocabulary Flashcards
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of that object.
Motion
A change in position over time.
Net Force
The combination of all the forces acting on an object.
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time.
Speed= distance/time
Velocity
The speed of an object and the direction that the object is moving.
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes overtime.
Newtons First Law
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newtons Second Law
Force = mass x acceleration
Newtons Third Law
For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction.
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
Friction
The force that resist motion.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Gravity
An attractive force that exist between all objects that have mass.
