Newton's laws of motion vocab Flashcards
Force
A push or pull exterted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
Motion
A change in position over time
Net force
the combination of all the forces acting upon an object
Speed
Distance travled per rate of time
velocity
The speed and direction of an object.
acceleration
The rate at which your volocity changes over time
Newton’s first law
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force
Newton’s second law
force = mass x acceleration
Newton’s third law
for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
inertia
The tendancy of an object to resist being moved or if the object id moving to resist a change in speed or direction until and outside force acts on the object
Friction
A force that resists motion
Mass
The amount of matter in an object
Gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
