Newton's Laws of Motion Vocab Flashcards
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of that object.
Motion
A change in position over time.
Net Force
A combination of all the forces acting on an object
Speed
Distance Traveled per rate of time
Speed = distance/time
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object.
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time.
Newtons 1st law
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force
Newtons second law
Force = Mass * Acceleration
Newtons THird law
For every reaction there is an equal but opposite reaction
Inertia
Te tendency of an object to resist or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in velocity until an outside force acts upon it
Friction
A force that resists motion.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
