Newton's Laws of Motion Flashcards
1
Q
1st Law
A
If a body is at rest, it will remain at rest unless a resultant force acts on the object. If the body is moving in a straight line with a constant speed, it will continue to move in this way unless a resultant force acts on it.
2
Q
2nd Law
A
The acceleration of an object is inversely proportional to its mass, directly proportional to the resultant force on it and takes place in the same direction as the unbalanced force.
3
Q
3rd Law
A
If body A exerts a force on body B, then body B exerts a force of the same size on body A but in the opposite direction.
4
Q
Action-reaction pair
A
Forces always act on different bodies. Do not combine to give a resultant force and cannot cancel each other out.
