Newton's Laws Flashcards
What are Newtons Laws?
- An object at rest tends to stay at rest, an object in motion tends to stay in motion, unless acted upon by an outside force
- F=ma
- For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is Newtons second law?
F=ma
What does F=ma mean?
Force= mass x acceleration
What is a force?
A push or a pull
What are the units for force, mass and acceleration?
Force (N), Mass (Kg), Acceleration (m/s2)
What is the formula for Net Force?
(F)net= (F)input - (F)friction
What is the difference between weight and mass?
Mass is constant independent of location while weight is a function of gravitational acceleration
What is the formula for weight?
w=mg weight= mass x gravitational acceleration
What are the units for weight, mass and gravitational acceleration?
Weight (N), Mass (Kg), Gravitational Acceleration (m/s2)
What is work?
Work is a force applied across a distance
What is the formula for work?
W=Fd Work= Force x distance
What are the units for work, force and distance?
Work (J), Force (N), Distance (m)
What are the manipulated formulas for work?
W=mad, W=Ep, W=mgh
