Newton's Laws Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of an object.
Motion
A change in position over time
Net force
The total of all forces acting on an object.
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time
Speed=distance/time
Velocity
The speed AND the direction you are going
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time
Newton’s first laws
An object will not change what it is doing unless something makes it.
Newton’s second law
force=mass x acceleration
Newton’s third law
For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
Friction
A force that resists motion
Mass
The amount of matter in a object
Gravity
An attractive froce that exits between all objects that have mass
