Newton's law of motion Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
Moton
A change in position over time
Net force
The combination of all forces acting on an object
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time. Speed = time
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time
Newton’s 1st law
An object will stay still until acted upon by an outside force
Newton’s 2nd law
Force = mass x acceleration
Newton’s 3rd law
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
Inertia
The tendency of an abject to resist being moved, or if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object
Friction
A force that resists motion
Mass
The amount of matter in an object
