Newton's First Law Flashcards
What does Newton’s first law mean?
an object in its motion stays in its motion unless another force makes it move from its original motion
What is the net force?
the combination of all forces acted on an object
When calculating the net force of an object, what do you do to the net forces when they go in the same direction? What do you do when they are pointing against each other?
when in the same direction: add, when going against each other: subtract
What is the net force of a balanced force?
0 Newtons (N)
What is inertia?
the tendency of an object to avoid acceleration
Which has more inertia: a moving car, or an idle car?
Both have the same inertia, it solely depends on the mass of an object
What is momentum?
amount of movement in an object
What is the formula for momentum? what do the letters mean?
p=mv: p is momentum, m is mass, v is velocity
