Tabloid newspaper is a smaller and more compact newspaper, it also refers to its content of which it focuses on lighter news, for example celebrity gossip, sports and television
Broadsheet
Much larger than a tabloid newspaper and it describes the quality of the newspaper, broadsheets publish more serious news

What is circulation
A count of how many copies of a particular publication are distributed.
What is news agenda
The list of stories that may be in a particular paper. The items on the news agenda will reflect the style and ethos of the paper
Ethnocentric
The application of the norms of one’s own culture to that of others. Stuart Hall referred to this definition in his theory of representation as he suggested that ethnocentrism is an example of the way in which stereotypes reinforce the power of certain groups over others
Newspaper terminology
Popular press
Refers to the cheaper newspaper with a mass circulation. They are also commonly known as tabloid press. Headlines tend to be more dramatic and enigmatic.
What is quality press
Refers to newspapers that are distinguished by their seriousness. They cover news in more detail and international stories. They were previously known as broadsheet newspapers. Headlines tend to carry more information
Masthead
The name of the paper which may encode its ideology. This may also be communicated through the typography chosen for it.
Plug/puff
This is at the top of the front page and it’s purpose is the broaden the appeal of the newspaper to the reader by suggesting what else the paper can offer them.
