NewHire OnBoard Flashcards
Define the Iterative Microlearning Design (IMD) Framework.
The IMD Framework is our core methodology, consisting of 4 steps: Initial Client Consultation and Learning Needs Analysis, Iterative Learning Design, Continuous Learning Enhancement, and repeating steps 2 and 3 as necessary.
Explain the concept of Microlearning.
Microlearning is a learning strategy that breaks complex information into digestible, bite-sized pieces to help learners easily absorb and retain information.
What is Instructional Design?
Instructional Design involves creating efficient and effective educational experiences. It could involve developing videos, interactive scenarios, quizzes, etc., for better understanding and engagement.
What do we do in the Initial Client Consultation and Learning Needs Analysis phase?
We educate the client about microlearning and instructional design, identify their learning needs and objectives, and understand the target audience.
What key questions could you ask a client during the Initial Consultation phase?
Ask about their skills or knowledge gaps, desired learning outcomes, and how this aligns with their organization’s broader goals.
How do we identify the target audience?
By conducting surveys or interviews with potential learners. Questions may concern their current understanding of the topic, preferred learning methods, and preferred device for accessing learning materials.
What are the main tasks in the Iterative Learning Design phase?
Design initial learning assets, test these assets with a pilot group, and gather feedback.
Describe an example of an initial learning asset.
An initial learning asset could be a script for a video on a specific topic. This should be clear, engaging, and aligned with the learning objectives.
How do we gather feedback in the Iterative Learning Design phase?
Prepare a survey for the pilot test group, with questions on pacing, clarity, engagement, and effectiveness of the material.
What happens in the Continuous Learning Enhancement phase?
We refine and enhance learning materials based on feedback, implement refined materials, and monitor and update the learning assets.
Give an example of refining a learning asset based on feedback.
If multiple test users found a certain section confusing, revise the script to clarify the point. If users felt a scenario was too easy, add more complexity to better challenge learners.
What does the monitoring process in the Continuous Learning Enhancement phase entail?
Monitoring involves sending out a survey to learners asking about the relevance, any issues or challenges with the materials, and other topics they’d like covered.
Why do we repeat steps 2 and 3 in the IMD framework?
Repeating these steps allows us to continuously improve our learning materials based on learner feedback, ensuring their relevance and usefulness.
How can you apply the IMD Framework in an onboarding context?
You can design a series of microlearning modules covering different aspects of the company for new hires, making sure to focus on their needs and learning objectives.
What are some potential challenges when communicating with clients about microlearning and instructional design?
A common challenge is a client’s unfamiliarity with these concepts. It’s important to provide clear, concise explanations and use real-life examples if necessary.
Give an example of how you can explain microlearning to a client.
Microlearning breaks complex information into bite-sized pieces. Instead of one long seminar on ‘yearly budget planning,’ we create separate short lessons for each component of the process, allowing employees to learn at their own pace.
