screens strabismus: keep child’s vision on a target 14 inches in front, shine penlight from above target towards center of forehead above the eyes)
Normal: light reflections symmetrical and slightly nasal to pupil
Abnormal
■ Esotropia: light deviated laterally
■ Exotropia: light deviated medially
In pseudostrabismus (cross-eyed), corneal light reflex is normal
What test other than Corneal Light reflex is used to screen Strabismus?
Cross Cover Test (screens strabismus: keep child’s vision on a target 14 inches in front, occlude but do not touch one eye for 3 seconds then pass over the nose to occlude opposite eye, check the uncovered eye for any movements, repeat 2-3x)
○ Normal: aligned eye will not have movements
○ Abnormal: movement of uncovered eye (may be seen due to im perfect coordination, must resolve by 3-6 months)
