Set of values and beliefs, and way of life, centred dependance on others.
What does the new right support?
Traditional values and institutions, and its views of the role, importance and functions in society of traditional unit are very similar to functionalist approach.
How do they observe the nuclear family?
Performing important and beneficial functions in securing social stability, emotional security for children, socialization, establishing respect and conformity to social values and norms
What do they see as a threat to traditional family life?
Rising divorce rate, more stepfamilies, lone parents, cohabitation
What do they think alternate families cause?
Undermine social stability
Lack of respect
Anti social behaviour amongst young
What do Murray and Marshland argue?
Welfare state undermine personal responsibility and self-help= dependancy culture and work shy underclass

Social group at bottom of social class hierarchy, whose members are in some ways different from and cut off or excluded from rest of society
What social policies do they want put in place?
Reduction of welfare state on non-conventional family units.
