Airing of audio and video to the public via technology such as TV and radio

That is encoded in a machine. E.g the internet and mobile devices

What is meant by digitalisation?
The growth of digital technology in the 90’s resulted in changes in the way information is stored and transmitted
What is meant by technological convergence?
A single device which combines various media technologies that were once separate
What is meant by economic convergence?
Media and telecommunication industries which previously produced separate and distinct systems of communication begin to make economic alliances with each other as the boundaries of media have been reduced. This created multimedia delivery systems
What is meant by cultural convergence?
The new media has changed the way we interact in society. New media has changed consumerism. 6/10 British adults use the media to buy products such as food, clothing, music, insurance etc
What is meant by interactivity?
The new media responds in real time by pressing links. The internet epitomises such interactive media because it lets users select the stories they want to read or watch in the order they want them
What is meant by choice?
Media audiences today can now interact with a variety of media, often using a single device for their choice of entertainment, information, social relationships and services
What is meant by participatory culture?
New media audiences are no longer passive receivers of information and entertainment. Instead they actively collaborate with new media and other users by uploading content to sharing such as Facebook, YouTube. Media producers and consumers no longer operate separate roles- they now interact with each other constantly with a media which is constantly evolving
What is meant by collective intelligence?
It refers to the way users of new media collaborate and share knowledge, resources and skills to build a shared or group intelligence that is greater than any one individual
