FERA (Federal Emergency Relief Administration)
gave states money they could use to provide relief for families in need.
CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps)
provided jobs for unmarried men ages 18-25. All jobs involved helping the environment and natural resources in some way, often trying to prevent problems in the future like the dust bowl.
WPA (Works Progress Administration) and Public Works Administration
These programs created jobs in a wide variety of ares. Some of the types of jobs included: building and repairing things like roads, bridges, community buildings like schools and libraries, artistic jobs for people like actors, artists, musicians, and writers; sewing rooms.
FDIC (Federal Depositors Insurance Corporation)
In this program the government insures bank deposits. This means if the bank closes, the government guarantees people who had money in the bank will get it even though the bank is no longer open.
NLRA (National Labor Relations Act)
this law guaranteed the right to belong to a nunion, strike, boycott, and picket. It was hoped that by being guaranteed these rights employees would be able to negotiate high enough salaries that they could afford to buy things.
FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act)
This law set a minimum wage, maximum work week (for industry) , and banned child labor.
SSA (Social Security Act)
This law created the social security pension plan for the elderly, created unemployment insurance for people who lost their jobs, and gave money to states for children and the disabled. AS part of it, all employees and their employers pay a tax on all money earned. Then when a person retires, or if they become disabled before retirement, they receive a monthly check from the government.
