Improved working conditions

Interfering too much in American life
Made the government seem like dictators
Why did FDR scrap prohibition
To help raise tax from alcohol
Why did people oppose scrapping prohibition
Unpopular with rural communities and religious people

Built schools, roads, dams, bridges, airports
Over $3 billion was spent
Why was the PWA opposed?
Very costly for tax payers
Republicans thought it was too much help and anti rugged individualism
What did the EBA do?
Shut all banks so they could be checked
Opened 5000 trustworthy banks
Why was the EBA opposed?
Small banks not allowed to reopen which was seen as too much interference
What did the TVA do?
Built dams to irrigate land, control water flow and provide jobs
Dams used for hydro electricity eg. The Fontana Dam
Why was TVA opposed?
Very unpopular with small electric companies as it was so big and powerful they could not compete
What did the CCC do?
men 18-25
Mostly environmental projects eg. Planting trees in national parks
They earned $30 per month but $25 was sent back to families
2.5million were helped by this scheme
Why was the CCC opposed?
Very costly for tax payers
Republicans thought it was anti-rugged individualism
Most of the money sent home wasn’t spent due to the lack of confidence
