Federal Deposits Insurance Corporation (FDIC)

- If the bank collapses, your money would be insured by the government for up to 5,000 dollars. If you have more money in the bank, you will still only receive 5,000 dollars.
- Required banks to be cautious with people’s money. It was the bank’s responsibility to deny loans if they think people might not be able to pay them back.

- This means a company cannot misrepresent itself. - What your company does or it’s worth needs to be true and public to the people.

- Its job is to regulate the stock market.

- Sought to raise crop prices by lowering production.
- government was trying to put less food in the market and have a lower supply so the price will be raised. This is because the demand is increasing.
- The government pays farmers not to plant food on all their land.
- They paid hog farmers to slaughter 6 million pigs to put more meat on the market.

- Focused on the Tennessee River Valley that didn’t have much funding, it needed a lot of work.
- Dams were renovated and new ones were reconstructed.
- Jobs were provided to the people living there.
- Hydroelectric power and flood control. Advancements to this area were being made.

Put young men to work by building roads, parks, planting trees, etc.
Planted trees in scarce areas such as areas that were affected by the Dust Bowl.
FDR’s goal was to make more jobs.
The men were supplied with free food, uniforms, and lodging. Most of the camps were located in the Great Plains and on the work sites.

- This specifically failed in combating unemployment. So, Roosevelt established the Civil Works Administration (CWA).

- Built out of the NIRA.
- They set prices on many products to ensure fair competition.
- It also established standards for working hours and got rid of child labor.
- aimed to promote recovery.
Established a code fair of practice. Expectations for both sides. - Congress guaranteed workers the right to unionize and to collectively bargain.

The WPA set out to create as many jobs as quickly as possible.
They spent 11 billion dollars for jobs for more than 8 million workers.
Most of the workers were unskilled (didn’t have a specific trait or job).

Provided jobs, education, counseling, and recreation for young people.
Provided student aid to high school, college, and grad students.
