Omission then reinforces this idea reflecting fragmentation within society and between immigrants, representing the wider immigrant experience.

The poet utilises hummor and irony through a double entendre when the persona mispronounces English as Anguish, this is ironic as the word is mispronounced for the language itself, in their mistake they have found a way to express, in broken english, the truth of what they are experiancing. Through this contrast of the
original meaning of the word anguish an oxymoron is use to show the empowerment of this process. For C it was worth the emotional toil and labour in the process of finding fulfilment in his teaching.

The poets use of anaphora stresses while he was teaching his students, he was also learning himself binding together his identity to make it a poignant experience to the audiance.

The use of a sarcastic tone reflects the bitterness of C’s rejection due to his cultural and linguistic background whist the persona also acknowledge it was an inevitable outcome through the diction of ‘genius’ that can be read as facetious to the audiance as thoese reject potential bassed on one small offence.
