Neutrons,Protons,Electrons Flashcards
Neutron
Are subatomic particles found inside the nucleus of every atom.Neutrons have a neutral electric charge (neither negative nor positive)
Protons
Protons are tiny particles in an atom’s nucleus with a positive charge. They, along with neutrons, make up most of the atom’s mass and determine the element’s identity.
Electrons
Electrons are tiny particles with a negative charge that orbit the nucleus of an atom. They play a key role in chemical reactions and bonding.
Cation
This means that the atom loss an electron and it will show in the version of a ‘+’
E.g.Na+=positively charges sodium atom (lost an electron)
Anion
This means that the atom gained an electron and it shows in the version of a ‘-‘
E.g.Na-Negatively charges sodium atom(gained an electron)
Neutral Atom
An atom that has the same amount of protons and electrons this means it’s neutral.
E.g.Na=Neutral sodium atom
Atomic number
The atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus
Mass number
The mass number is the number of neutrons and protons in the nucleus
How to calculate neutrons
You minus the mass by the amount of protons
E.g. 35-17=18 neutrons
