Neutralisation: sodium hydroxide to sulphuric acid Flashcards
1
Q
What reaction happening as sodium hydroxide is added to sulphuric acid?
A
Neutralisation
2
Q
What is happening to the number of hydrogen ions in solution as the sodium hydroxide was added to sulphuric acid?
A
The number of hydrogen ions was decreasing to become the same amount as hydroxide ions to balance and neutralise. Hydroxide ions neutralise hydrogen ions by removing them and converting them to water.
3
Q
What is happening to the hydrogen and hydroxide ions as pH 7 is reached.
A
They have become neutral as they are equal
4
Q
How would you determine when pH 7 is reached?
A
By using the UI. If the colour is green, then it is neutral (pH7)
