Neutralisation Reactions Flashcards
What is dissociation (when talking about acid-base reactions)?
The release of hydrogen ions/protons in a solution
What does a reaction between Metal + Acid create?
Salt + Hydrogen
What is a salt?
The product of metal ions replacing hydrogen ions in an acid.
What does a reaction between a Metal Oxide + Acid create?
Salt + Water
What does a reaction between a Metal Hydroxide + Acid create?
Salt + Water
What does a reaction between a Metal Carbonate + Acid create?
Salt + Carbon Dioxide + Water
What does a reaction between Ammonia + Acid create?
Ammonium Salt.
Why can ammonia also be a base?
Ammonia takes a proton to form ammonium and hydroxide.
((NH3 –> NH4 + OH ions))
What is the general acid-base reaction equation?
H+ + OH- —-> H2O
What does sodium and hydrochloric acid create?
Sodium chloride and Hydrogen
What does copper carbonate and sulphuric acid create?
Copper sulphate, Carbon dioxide and Water
What does ammonia and sulphuric acid make?
Ammonium Sulphate
