Neutralisation Flashcards
What does acid react with? (General)
Metal Oxide, Metal Hydroxide & Metal Carbonates
Reactions are exothermic
What are bases?
Metal Oxide, Metal Hydroxide
When acid react with bases/alkalis is called…
Neutralisation
Give the equation for base?
Acid + Base - Metal Salt + Water
Give the equation for Alkali?
Acid + Alkali - Metal Salt + Water
What is the test for Carbonate?
Add acid and if bubble come off producing CO2 it is a Carbonate
Give the equation for Metal Carbonates?
Acid + Metal Carbonate - Metal Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide
What is the chemical test for limewater?
Is to pass Carbon Dioxide through limewater. Turns Cloudy and forms White Precipitate
How to form Crystals?
- Warm the salt solution to evaporate the water. You get larger crystals if you evaporate the water slowly.
- You filter the mixture to remove the excess base, then evaporate the water in the filtrate to leave the salt behind.
What is a Crystal?
Large Scale Regular Arrays (A Giant Lattice)
