Neurovasculature forearm and hand Flashcards
What does the ulnar artery branch into in the forearm? when?
Common interosseus artery after passing pronator teres?
In the hand - what does the ulnar artery branch into?
Large superficial branch and small deep branch
What vessels anastomose in the hand? What is this called?
Superficial branch of ulnar artery with superficial branch of radial artery – forming a loop called the superficial palmar arch
What blood supply is there to the fingers? What do they alongside?
Superficial palmar arch –> Common digital arteries –> two digital arteries (one either side of each finger) which run alongside the digital nerves
The radial artery and ulnar artery more deeply to form what?
Deep palmar arch
Describe what happens to the radial nerve in the forearm and hand
Two branches - a) deep branch (motor nerve) supplies extensors, b) superficial branch (sensory) innervation to part of the posterior hand
Which muscles does the median nerve innervate?
Through carpal tunnel. Innervates flexors of the forearm (except flexor carpi ulnaris and ulnar side of flexor digitorium profundus) thenar muscles, three common digital nerves which divide into palmer digital nerves (two for each of the thumb, index and middle finger) and one for radial side of the ring finger
What muscles does the ulnar nerve innervate?
Ulnar half of flexor digitorium profundus, hypothenar muscles, all the interossei, adductor policis and the ulnar two lumbricals
What sensory innervation does the ulnar nerve have?
Little finger and ulnar side of ring finger - front and back
