Neurosurgical Management of strokes Flashcards
1
Q
What causes Posterior Fossa strokes
A
1- cardiac emboli
2- arterial stenosis
3- intramural thrombosis
4- vertebral artery dissection
2
Q
What is the concern with Posterior fossa stroke
A
After stroke brain swells , and the posterior fossa is not large , therefore hydrocephalus can occur and raise in pressure.
3
Q
When do you treat hydrocephalus
A
If it improves their condition , if not then it is not necessary
4
Q
How can you deal with Supratentorial infarction
A
Nothing to do to improve brain function but as brain continues to swell , pressure increases .
Can cut piece of bone of to relieve pressure and allow brain to swell ( decompressive craniotomy
